Los Angeles, May 30, 2023 - Riot Games is thrilled to announce that Teamfight Tactics (TFT), the leading strategy game in the auto battler genre, is taking its esports competitions to a whole new level. After four years and five Global Set Championships, TFT is proud to announce its first-ever global LAN event, set to take place in Las Vegas.
TFT has gained a devoted following due to its unique blend of individual performance and creative freedom. Players can experiment with different compositions and climb the ladder from anywhere, on any platform. Unlike other games, TFT does not rely on low tick-rate servers, enabling all Global Set Championships to be held online. Now, TFT is ready to bring the excitement of in-person competitions to its dedicated fan base.
"We want the future of TFT esports to embody approachability and diversity of skill. To achieve this, we are expanding our esports events and opening more of them to anyone who wants to compete," says Michael Sherman, Global Head of TFT Esports. "Recognizing the incredible potential of competitive TFT, we are thrilled to announce our first-ever global LAN event, which will take place this December in Las Vegas."
The TFT LAN tournament will be held at the prestigious MGM Grand on the iconic Las Vegas Strip from December 8 to 10. Players from around the world will have the thrilling opportunity to showcase their strategic prowess in person for the first time. The competition will feature the upcoming Set 10, which was previously announced as being the most innovative Set to date. As the event will take place at the start of the Set’s launch, this event will emphasize players’ ability to adapt quickly to the new meta instead of focusing solely on players' mastery of the set.
The event will adopt an open bracket format, offering 512 spots to aspiring competitors. Competitors will be able to secure a spot to compete among a diverse pool of talented players from all corners of the globe. Details on how to obtain a competitor pass will be shared at a later date, with some priority given to players based on their Set 9 ladder rankings.
As competitive TFT continues to evolve, the global LAN event in Las Vegas represents the first step toward the future of TFT esports. This tournament aims to be an unforgettable experience for both players and fans alike.
